HERE IS INFORMATION PROVIDED FOR AN IDENTICAL LOBBY CARD PROPERTY OF THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY
Lobby card for the original Broadway production of
    The Wiz
at the Majestic Theatre, New York City
Two years before he created his iconic "I ❤ ️NY ” logo, Milton Glaser designed the graphic identity for
    The Wiz
, which appeared in newspaper ads, posters, playbills, and on the cover of the original cast recording LP. Glaser later said that he tried to use the “vocabulary of Broadway” in his design: rather than a main character, he chose to represent one of the ensemble dancers from “The Tornado Ballet” that leads into Dorothy and Toto’s arrival in Oz. The silhouette and smoke-like swirls are hallmarks of Glaser’s work of the 1960s and 70s. The dancer’s profile and arched leg signify that this version of
    The Wizard of Oz
    is not just for children.
